Combat Corner Professional Sergio “The Phenom” Pettis Victorious at UFC Fight Night 42

Sergio Pettis vs Yaotzin Meza

On Saturday June 7th the UFC travelled to the Tringley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico for UFC Fight Night 42. Closing out the final bout of the FOX Sports 1 prelims was Combat Corner Professional Sergio “The Phenom” Pettis as he took on Yaotzin Meza in the bantamweight division. The twenty year old Duke Roufus prodigy out struck Meza early and often attacking with kicks and punches and Meza seemed to have little answer for Sergio’s consistent barrage of strikes. However, Pettis was unable to land some of his more powerful strikes thrown that could have possibly ended the fight earlier. Pettis’ dominance in the first two rounds had him going in to the third round looking relaxed and confident and we even saw him throw a cartwheel kick in the third round. After the third round it was all up to the judges and all three judges scored the bout the same 29-28 declaring Sergio the winner via unanimous decision. Sergio’s record increases to 11-1 overall and 2-1 in the UFC and at just twenty years old it looks like Pettis will be around and continue to grow and improve for years to come.
