Combat Corner Professional James McSweeney to Make LFC Debut

On Friday August 23rd live from the Lubbock Civic Center in Lubbock Texas, Legacy Fighting Championship will host LFC 22 and will broadcast on AXSTV across the world. In the main event of the evening The Ultimate Fighter season ten light-heavyweight stand out James “The Hammer” McSweeney (11-10) will square off against Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello(32-15) .

After going 1-2 in the Ultimate Fighting Championship many people forgot all about James McSweeney. However since his stint on TUF McSweeney has gone 7-4 and most recently finished former Strikeforce veteran Dion Staring at CFA10 in just 0:38 of the very first round with a TKO. After landing a devastating head kick McSweeney swooped in with some punches to finish Staring. Now as a late replacement for Bellator veteran Marcus Sursa (12-8), McSweeney will not only make his LFC debut but also headline the card in a bout against Paul Buentello which could possibly be the biggest challenge of McSweeneys MMA career.

Buentello is a veteran fighter that has fought for major organizations including Bellator, Strikeforce, and the UFC. Much like McSweeney, Buentello’s striking is his best attribute and he also likes to stand and bang with his opponents. With a tough chin Buentello has rarely been knocked out, but his cardio always seems to be in question and many times we have seen him fade in later rounds and become more of a sloppy and tired fighter. McSweeney should be able to capitalize on this in the later rounds, and while on paper it seems that Buentello is the better fighter boasting a 32-15 record and riding a three fight win streak. However if you look closer you find that Buentello has gone 5-5 in the last four years meanwhile McSweeney has won five of his last 6 fights , looks hungry and determined to be back on MMA’s big stage.  You can watch the bout as the main event of the LFC22 card that airs Friday on AXSTV.
